Keyboard Fun — Keyboard & Theory Supplement for Flute Students

Keyboard Fun works seamlessly with the Blocki Flute Method Book 1 and the Flute Zoo Books to build essential keyboard and theory skills alongside flute study.

Many parents wonder whether their child should start on piano first and then move to flute — but why choose? With Keyboard Fun, students can begin both together. The books are designed to complement each other, so learning keyboard actually accelerates progress on the flute.

Many of the pieces in Keyboard Fun are the same as those in Blocki Flute Book 1, so students reinforce what they’re learning on flute while exploring the keyboard. It can be taught before beginning the flute, in tandem with flute lessons, or as a standalone theory supplement.

You do not need to be a pianist to teach this book — it’s designed so that any flute teacher can use it confidently.

Teaching Tips

• Encourage students to sing the note names while playing
• Use the keyboards printed in the book to practice five-note patterns in group classes
• Pieces can be played in any octave — up to four students can play together on one piano
• At the beginning, have students play the piece on piano while singing note names, then transfer it to flute
• Use the keyboard to help memorize five-note patterns on the flute
