Which size flute is best for my young student?
The right flute is simply the one a student can hold and balance comfortably — so size matters far more than age. Here is how the three options compare.
1. Mini-Di Flute and Jean Paul flute
The smallest beginning flute and the easiest one to balance, which makes it the best choice for the youngest beginners — typically preschool and early elementary students.
2. Curved Head Joint
A traditional beginning flute fitted with a curved head joint instead of a straight one, used until a student's arms are long enough to balance the flute comfortably. Typically ages 6–9.
3. Straight Head C Flute
The traditional C flute with a straight head joint, right for most students from around age 9 — though the size of the individual student always matters more than the number.
