Di Zhao 400 Silver-plated Body with Solid Silver Head Joint, Open Hole, and B-foot

The DZ-400 is an incredible step-up flute, having the same sound of flutes that retail for more than twice the price.  It differs from the DZ-300 by having a solid silver head joint (the DZ-300 has a silver plated head joint.) Since the head joint is key to the tone quality of the flute, each head joint is hand-cut with undercuts and overcuts making it easy to produce a full and singing sound.  All pads are partially shimmed-a process usually reserved for professional flutes. Every flute is made to achieve smooth key action, fast response, and excellent resonance.  Master flute maker, Di Zhao tests and adjusts each instrument in the same manner that the top professional flutes in the U.S. are tested.  All flutes are tuned to A-442 pitch.

After the 2009 National Flute Convention in NYC, it was obvious that the new Di Zhao's flutes were a huge hit. I only heard extremely positive comments posted on the various flute lists

Mrs.
I have played on an open-holed Yamaha (silver head, silver plated body) since high school all the way through my college years as a music major and the following 17 years. In trying out some intermediate flutes for one of my students I realized that it might be time to purchase a new flute for myself as my flute was just not playing as well as it once had. I tried out the DZ-400 and DZ-700 along with many other brands that my local music stores carried (Yamaha, Gemeinhardt, Haynes, etc.) and the DiZhao flutes played miles better than any of the other brands. The response is amazing in the full range of the flute and is so easy to play in the low range. The flute has a really full rich tone and is a joy to play. My daughter owns a Blocki curved head joint flute which I also love and would highly recommend to any beginner flutist. I decided to purchase the DZ400 because it was such a great price and the DZ700 had a D#roller which felt weird to me under my pinky (probably because I have never had this feature). At first I did feel like the thumb Bb key stuck up a bit higher than on my Yamaha so it took a little getting used to (I have to move my thumb over a bit more to press the key down rather than just roll it over), but I absolutely love this flute and would recommend it to anyone. It is also less expensive than any of the flutes I tried at the local music stores (by almost half) which did not play even close to as well as the DiZhao. Kathy was also amazingly helpful and patient in answering my many questions and talking with me personally on FaceTime to help me choose the right flute for me.
